Dr. Sven Dietrich reported a slowdown with a K6-2 chip running FreeBSD.

Xavier Hienne had previously made an RPM optimised for K6 using pgcc
    with the following flags:

      -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -malign-loops=1 -malign-jumps=1 -malign-functions=2
      -mpreferred-stack-boundary=3 -funroll-all-loops -fexpensive-optimizations
      -fstrict-aliasing -mpentium -mwide-multiply

After I compiled FreeBSD versions using GCC 2.95 with these flags and
-DMMX, Sven confirmed that he did get a speedup.

People who want to try Xavier's RPM (v1.1.0) can get it here:

    Bye,
      Rob.
