INRIA-UoH Joint Team in Sanskrit Computational Linguistics

Background

This is the site of the Joint research team Sanskrit Computational Linguistics between the INRIA research center Paris-Rocquencourt and the Department of Sanskrit Studies from University of Hyderabad. This team operates within the funding framework of INRIA's Equipes Associéees.

History of the Sanskrit Computational Linguistics Joint team

The joint team applied to this program for its 2007 selection. The original proposal is available here as an html document. This proposal was accepted, and the joint team started in january 2007.
The progress report for year 2007 is available here as an html document. The progress report for year 2008 is similarly available here. A 3-year progress report was submitted with a proposal for renewal of the joint team for 3 more years. The renewal was granted.

In March 2010 INRIA and University of Hyderabad signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a collaborative program in the area of Sanskrit Computational Linguistics, coordinated by the two scientific leaders of the joint team. This MOU is available here as a pdf document.
The progress report for year 2010 is available here as a pdf document.

A plaque at the Department of Sanskrit Studies was inaugurated on September 21st 2011 by the President of Inria and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad:

The progress report for year 2011 is available here as a pdf document. In June 2012 INRIA and U. of Hyderabad signed an annex to the MoU, setting the conditions for joint software development between our sites, and extending our MoU until the end of March 2014. It may be found here as a Word document. The progress report for year 2012 is available here as a pdf document.

International Sanskrit Computational Linguistics Symposium

One important outcome of this collaborative program has been the creation of an international forum for research in this emergent discipline, under the form of the International Symposium on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics:
1st International Symposium on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics, INRIA Paris-Rocquencourt, October 2007
2nd International Symposium on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics, Brown University, Providence, May 2008
3rd International Symposium on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics, U. of Hyderabad, Jan. 2009

4th International Symposium on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics, JNU University, Delhi, Dec. 2010

5th International Symposium on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Jan. 2013

6th International Symposium on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Sept. 2019
