It basically had a ExtraExtra stone with a 2-process 19-point imp-spiral. I improved it by changing the ending slightly, and adding more trashing (put DJN where there was a JMP). Variation A-1.a was the successor, and it had an extra wimp to tie CG-X and to have an extra edge againts other stone/imps, at the expense of more vulnerability to scanners and vampires. The latest Variation D-1 has a slightly different twist to the stone part. After some bombing, the "buckle" line is replaces by "stop", so that the stone doesn't generate more processes (the stone becomes ineffective if we hit the processes max). Later on, it drops "patch" onto "stone", which steers away processes into the core-clear. However, all the processes at "loop" and "cast" keep bombing for a while before they're drained. The constants are adjusted so that the complete bombing run almost exactly hits every other core location either by decrementing or bombing (there's a slight over-reach). The core-clear is an ultra-standard one, changing into a perfect gate. At this point there are still 3000+ processes running, so the time spent in my own spiral is negligible (or so I hope). Notice the wimp that's started right after the stone. This wimp also generates a number of processes, but nowhere near what the stone accumulates over time. The stone and the spiral are vulnerable to CG-X's decrementing run, but the wimp is not, so I get 90+% ties against CG-X, compared to about 25% losses with Stimpede. Finally, notice that when the stone hits itself with "stop" on "buckle", it becomes a 50% gate, which is enough to gain another few points againts other spirals. Againts other stone/imps, my stone has a 50/50 chance of winning against the opponent's and then when the stone is dead, the wimp will kill the opponent's stone and spiral. So, why have a spiral at all? That's a good question, and I'll answer to it after I experiment with my upcoming Nova series. ;redcode-94x ;name Variation D-1 ;author Jay Han ;strategy Variation on the theme of "Twimpede" ;strategy Added a split/wimp ;strategy Stonger imp-gating, less trashing ;macro org start ; Mod-2 stone p1 equ 27739 s1 equ 34 p2 equ 27705 s2 equ -34 gate equ top-39 top equ stop stop dat.f
